"They eloped. Aunt Mary says, and kept it a secret until Grandma's mother (Mary LaRue) found the certificate. Grandma met Grandpa through Grandpa's sister Elsie. Grandma and Elsie were good friends and also lived near one another." Chas. H. Elder preformed the wedding ceremony and Miriam N. Elder witnessed.

Interests: painting, flying (owned his own airplane), deep-sea fishing, music, and working on radios.
"Mom says he could play a mouth oran like nobody's business. When they lived in Weartsville, Lester had a violin and took violin lessons until one day when his violin fell out of his buggy and under the wheel. He could not afford to replace it."

"Aunt elsie said when she was young her parents lived near Kingwood on the Rev. Moore farm. She and Lester had to walk 2 miles to school. She was 5 and he was 8. they would get so tired they would have to sit on the roadside and rest."

"Mom says when her parents moved from Weartsville to Hopewell, they lived in 1/2 of the double house. John D. and Ada lived in the other half. Lester, Susie and John D. all worked at H. A. Smith Novelty Co. in Hopewell. Mom says she went to her grandmother Ada's house after school and that she was there most of the time anyway. Mom's mother felt that Ada spoilded Lizzie and so before long Lester and Susie moved out to Andrew Wycoff's house."
